Moravia Hope Food Pantry, like most pantries, struggles with drying up of grant funding and are concerned for our clients with the anticipated decreases in benefits.
These factors will certainly challenge them in the upcoming months.
Meat and laundry detergent are always among our greatest needs.
During the pandemic the building in which they had been housed in was sold and they lost their lease. As there was no suitable rental property available, they were forced to purchase their current building and that has presented them with some challenges.
Along with a mortgage and usual upkeep expenses, they have had to make several repairs, some rewiring, replacement of some flooring and underlying supports, rebuild the walk in cooler, and replace the outside entryway.
They were able to access some local foundation support to help with these projects and are currently looking at the need to replace another area of the floor and its supports.
The Moravia Community Garden has recently turned the rundown horseshoe pits in their back yard into a garden and they plan to donate their harvest to the pantry!
The soil is in poor condition, and they are looking to do more extensive improvement of the area in the fall and next spring.
This group is also made up entirely of volunteers and they are so grateful for their involvement. Weather permitting they work on the project every Tuesday and Saturday.
The Pantry is located at 76 W. Cayuga St, Moravia.
They rely on the community and some Food Bank grants for the bulk of their funding and support.
Monetary donations are welcome and can be sent to P.O. Box 462, Moravia, N.Y. 13118 or dropped off at one of their openings. The Moravia Hope Pantry is a not-for-profit, tax exempt agency.
